For any of you who did not get the opportunity to participate in the ELCA Town hall event yesterday, The webcast will be posted here www.elca.org/townhall for download and on-demand viewing by 4:30 p.m. (CST) Monday, Dec. 7.
But save yourself the waste of time. I was one of the first to post a question and of course since it was not a softball question it was skipped over. I'll grant you that some questions taken from the audience in attendance and a few of those read from the online chat sounded tough (sexuality statement, funding etc..)but you could tell that Bishop Hanson was well prepared for these as they were responded to in an equally blurred non clear way like most statements and responses from the elca leadership. Nothing new and definitely nothing worth repeating here.
My starting question quoted the ELCA website " but for all people whenever or wherever they might have lived and no matter how religious or irreligious they may have proved to be themselves. It is clearly God’s announced will that all people shall be saved and come to the knowledge of truth" and i asked "does the ELCA firmly believe that you do not have to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and still get to heaven?: Although several other online attendees pushed for an answer as well it was never brought up.
I kept insisting that they respond to my other questions as well: where is it in the Bible that states that any one sin is lesser or greater than other sins? , and what preparations do the ELCA have for those Pastors who are in an alleged lifelong committed monogamous relationship with a same sex individual and they then have a fall out. What will the ELCA then do with this person since they no longer fit the inclusion clause? even after the insistence of others here as well these were never answered.
Over all the online forum was not very well thought out or tested as during the entire time you were deluged with a cacophony of chimes of those entering and leaving the chat room (A purported 2 to 3 thousand)this pinging and chiming was added to by all of those entering and leaving the facebook chat interface as well, not only was all of this rather annoying but the sounds were often louder than the noises made by Mark Hanson which could be a good thing but I was eagerly waiting for a moment of clarity or something other than pro elca propaganda to come out and it was hard to focus with all of the noise.
The ELCA no longer believes in repentance as others were chiming in on how happy they were in the ELCA now fully accepting sinful behavior and now in fact celebrating this! this fact was supported by numerous online attendees and in fact came around in by another online chatter who responded to my questions with the comment that the those who have been divorced as being sinful as well. My response was those who have suffered from the ordeal of divorce surely do not celebrate this and expect others to rally behind them and except divorce as a gift!
Well for all its worth they pledged to let everyone experience this propaganda again, so get your questions ready and written down and then set fire to them as the end result will be the same.
